Project Manager, Distributed Energy Infrastructure
Austin, Texas | Hybrid | Full-Time | Up to 25% Travel
MG3 Energy is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead distributed energy infrastructure projects across the full project lifecycle, from initial site diligence and project definition through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operational turnover.
About MG3 Energy
The Next Generation of Distributed Power Infrastructure.
MG3 Energy develops and deploys distributed energy infrastructure that helps businesses and utilities improve resiliency, manage energy costs, and create long-term value.
Through distributed generation, battery energy storage, solar, hybrid microgrids, and structured energy solutions, MG3 brings together engineering, capital, utility coordination, and market expertise to move complex energy projects from concept through operation.
Position Overview
This role will work closely with MG3's commercial, engineering, and operations teams, as well as customers, EPC contractors, utilities, equipment suppliers, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
The Project Manager will be responsible for ensuring MG3 has the technical, commercial, and site information required to accurately define and price projects, then carrying those projects through execution to a fully commissioned and operating asset.
This is a hands-on role for someone who is comfortable working through ambiguity, identifying missing information, coordinating multiple stakeholders, and driving projects forward with clear ownership of scope, schedule, budget, risk, and execution.
Key Responsibilities
Project Development & Site Diligence
-
Lead site assessments and technical diligence to define project scope, feasibility, constructability, schedule, and cost.
-
Coordinate collection of required electrical, civil, gas, utility, permitting, and operational information.
-
Identify site constraints, missing information, utility requirements, and other risks that could affect project delivery.
-
Coordinate preliminary engineering, equipment selection, interconnection, and permitting strategy.
Estimating, Pricing & Proposal Support
-
Coordinate vendor, subcontractor, EPC, and equipment pricing to develop project CAPEX.
-
Work with MG3 commercial and engineering teams to develop executable project scopes, estimates, schedules, assumptions, and contingencies. Identify long-lead equipment, major cost drivers, scope gaps, and development risks before commercial commitment.
-
Support proposal and contract development to ensure technical scope and commercial commitments are aligned.
Project Delivery & Controls
-
Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, forecasts, risk registers, and key milestones.
-
Manage engineering, procurement, permitting, interconnection, testing, and commissioning activities.
-
Track design deliverables, RFIs, submittals, equipment deliveries, change orders, and project costs.
-
Monitor construction progress against schedule, budget, scope, quality, and contractual requirements.
Stakeholder Management
-
Serve as a primary point of coordination among MG3, customers, EPC contractors, utilities, vendors, consultants, and engineering partners.
-
Lead project meetings and maintain clear ownership of actions, decisions, deliverables, and deadlines.
-
Proactively identify and resolve issues and escalate critical risks or decisions as needed.
Commissioning & Turnover
-
Coordinate testing, energization, commissioning, punch-list completion, and final acceptance.
-
Ensure completion of as-built drawings, O&M manuals, warranties, permits, test reports, and other closeout documentation.
-
Lead turnover of completed assets to MG3 operations and capture lessons learned for future projects.
Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
-
5+ years of experience in project engineering, project development, construction management, EPC project management, or a related infrastructure role.
-
Experience managing technically complex energy, electrical, construction, or infrastructure projects.
-
Strong understanding of project development, estimating, procurement, scheduling, budgeting, and project controls.
-
Ability to lead site assessments and identify the information required to define project scope and pricing.
-
Experience coordinating contractors, engineering teams, vendors, utilities, and customers.
-
Ability to read and work with electrical one-lines, engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
-
Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
-
Ability to independently manage multiple projects in a fast-moving environment.
-
Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience with solar, BESS, distributed generation, natural gas generation, microgrids, or related energy infrastructure.
-
Experience with EPC contractors, utilities, engineering firms, energy developers, or equipment manufacturers.
-
Familiarity with utility interconnection, permitting, commissioning, and electrical infrastructure such as switchgear, transformers, generators, and inverters.
-
Experience with project management tools such as Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, Procore, Smartsheet, or similar platforms.
-
PMP certification or formal project management training is a plus.
What Success Looks Like

The Project Manager will help ensure that projects are sufficiently defined before commercial commitment, that risks are identified early, and that execution remains aligned with customer expectations, budget, schedule, and technical requirements.
